Cupping for Relaxation, Soft tissue Injury and Pain

Cupping is a newly poplar, fast growing soft tissue therapy, with ancient roots. It has been used by Chinese medicine practitioners for thousands of years. Archaeological evidence points to cupping being used as far back as 3000 B.C. in China. Animal horns and bamboo were crafted into make-shift cups. Today, practitioners use it for pain relief and musculoskeletal injuries like strains, sprains and back injuries.

Cupping therapy involves placing cups on the skin that are manually pumped to create suction. The cups are left on the skin for several minutes. The suction encourages blood flow, which enhances metabolic waste removal, reduces inflammation, promotes soft issue healing and reduces pain. Cupping therapy can also help:

  • Drain excess fluids and toxins

  • Loosen fascial adhesions

  • Revitalize connective tissue

  • Increase blood flow to skin and muscles

  • Stimulate the peripheral nervous system

  • Modulate the immune system

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Enhance circulation

Cupping doesn't hurt, but it may leave temporary discolorations that may last 1-3 days.  Most patients find cupping to be very relaxing.
